MBAFF BD-compliant?

Hi again,A client brought me a bunch of 1080p 29.97 clips for a Blu-ray. When I encode using Compressor's BD auto preset the files usually end up as MBAFF but sometimes Progressive. I know 1080p…Continue

Film Festival BD specifications

I made a BD for a client to send to film festivals. Source was a 25fps WMV (!) so I made a 1080p 25fps auto-start BD. Now she's asking me which of the following categories it falls into. She speaks…Continue

"Thanks for this Denny! So far I can't get it to work though.  As an example, I have 10 buttons and I want only button 1 to appear (drawn last)... Here's what doesn't work so far: 1.I write actions to "change…"

"Hi Rob,  This is a tough one.   You can do get it to work, but it is going to take some creativity.  The key is to think of your buttons as separate pieces of construction paper.  So button 1 is a blue piece, button 2 is a green…"

Overlapping buttons

My client designed a beautiful bonus menu, but the buttons are huge and some of them overlap each other. I usually try to avoid this, but I hate to ask him to re-design such a nice, unusual menu. This menu only displays one button at a time. The background is a montage that symbolizes each bonus feature. So as you cursor around the page, the buttons appear one-at-a-time as an overlay. Here's the thing: When I come to the menu, the top left button is active (this one doesn't overlap with any other…See More

"That was it! I just navigated to the new location of the button sound file, and all is well. What threw me was the name of the missing file listed in Compile: Projectsray Projects.wav. My button file is called ButtonSFX.wav Thanks Peter!"

"Since it's Indie, look in the Disc Information Tab under Files and Groups, thats where button audio lives. Since you cannot restore your project look in the .dopl file or create an empty .wav with the name of the missing file at the path…"

"I'm using Indie, and it does have some button sounds. Thanks for these tips! I'll try them."

Peter B replied to Rob Anderson's discussion Restoring old project
"Is this DO Indie or EX? Is your project using button sounds? You also open your playlist.dopl in a text editor and search for that .wav file so you can see where/how it was used."

"Yeah - but I can't even figure out where it goes. Everything seems to be in place, but this "missing" file is preventing the compile. I guess I'll test each audio file to make sure they're not corrupt."

Justin Sevakis replied to Rob Anderson's discussion MBAFF BD-compliant?
"It's pretty simple, you just have to encode them as "fake-interlaced", i.e. treat them like 1080i 29.97. More advanced encoders will let you flag the stream as 29.97i and still use methodology that's better suited to progressive…"

MBAFF BD-compliant?

Hi again,A client brought me a bunch of 1080p 29.97 clips for a Blu-ray. When I encode using Compressor's BD auto preset the files usually end up as MBAFF but sometimes Progressive. I know 1080p 29.97 is not BD-compliant, but how about MBAFF? What is the best way to make truly BD-compliant files from 1080p 29.97 source? Many thanks,Rob  See More

Justin Sevakis replied to Rob Anderson's discussion Film Festival BD specifications
"That's not something to be "fixed" -- most US BD players don't handle 25 fps and most US TVs wouldn't know what to do with a 25 Hz frame rate. So yeah, converting to 23.98 or 29.97i would be a good idea."

"Rob I also searched for answer, but the specs your client made make not sense (R18 would refer to film ratings, but does not lead anywhere). Better ask her for more info.   However I do comment on the choice of 25fps for Blu-ray. 25fps Blu-ray…"
