David Mackenzie replied to Matt Stoddart's discussion Retail Blu-ray with multiple frame-rate for Australia, any real world problems?
"There's no problem with this that I know of.  In the BD spec, it's mandatory for all players to support the NTSC-centric frame rates. Only the PAL-centric ones were optional (but mandatory in those regions). In Europe, to gain the…"

Matt Stoddart replied to David Mackenzie's discussion What's everyone using for subtitle generation?
"A second vote for "Subtitle Edit", I've used it for over a year now and it is getting better and better with every update. It is now the only subtitle tool I use for DVD and Bluray authoring."

Andreas Gumm replied to David Mackenzie's discussion What's everyone using for subtitle generation?
"There is "Subtitle Edit", which is free & one of the most flexible subtitle tools I ever saw. It works really fine for most situations & the wide subtitle format support is simply awsome. It can render BDN XML/PNG or DOST…"

"I highly recommend it, total dream to use, customizable templates, and for the most part, intuitive. I got the "DVD" version which is one down from the highest-featured version."

"Thanks Peter. Yeah, I'm using Scenarist for BD. I'm surprised it doesn't support both given that it's only the script that's different."

Peter B replied to David Mackenzie's discussion What's everyone using for subtitle generation?
"Have a look at Sublime (PC and Mac versions available). For BD, it does Dostudio only (I think you are using Scenarist mainly, right?) but it's timeline and subtitle creation/modification features, ease of use and performance make for a very…"

What's everyone using for subtitle generation?

Hey all,Right now I'm using Annotation Edit on the Mac to spit out BDN XML + PNG subtitles for Blu-ray. I'm very happy with the quality of these images. Unfortunately its ability to export 4-color bitmap subtitles for DVD is nowhere near as good, the quality is poor. It can generate text scripts for use with DVD Studio Pro's own internal subtitle rendering engine though.Trouble is, shuttling files back and forth to a Mac is a gigantic pain in an otherwise PC-based workflow. What subtitle…See More

David Mackenzie replied to Jan's discussion Problem with using GPRs in menu jumps (HDMV / EX)
"Hey Jan,Are you trying to jump to a button within the same page?I'm not a DoStudio user but a Scenarist one, the manual for this explains that in BD you shouldn't specify the page if you are jumping to a button within the same page. Some…"

David Mackenzie replied to Craig Youmans's discussion Suggestions for Audio compressors
"Hi Craig, Surcode for Dolby Digital works fine and is BD compliant. (Most AC3 encoders I tried do not write the correct 'bsid' so would fail BDA verification). It's not officially supported beyond Wnidows 7, but I can confirm it works…"

I would get the Netblender Encoder, it is very good and has all the benefits of integrating with DoStudio.

Cheers
