Here's a question for the general authoring public. I've been using the Slideshow feature on Scenarist BD. It's a feature that never really worked right on DSA, and I'm very happy to have it working now.

One minor problem: the Still Image Encoder app provided with Scenarist just isn't very good compared to other encoders out there. Even at the highest bitrates some images are coming out with very visible compression artifacts.

Has anyone used a 3rd party encoder (such as x264) to encode Slideshow .264 files? If so, what special hoops do you have to jump through to make them work as slideshows?

I'm already posted answer on Doom9 forum to similar question. Shortly: No. Available 3rd party tools can't create proper slideshows, only Scenarist Still Image Encoder can.

DVDLogic KITe and Blu-Disc Studio has build-in encoder for slideshows (using x264), but it's not compliant to BD specifications and falls on mux in Scenarist BD or UHD. I was talked with developer and they said that they going to upgrade encoder soon to meet the BD specs.

That’s a bummer, but nice to have a real answer. Thanks, Pavel!
